Glowing Embers of Ice – Narrative

Their voice is insignificant in the world of men. The wild inhabitants of the Arctic – of land, sea and air – have no say in the decisions which determine the fate of their home. Their call must take a different form if they are to rouse our collective consciousness from sleep.

The message of earth- and wildlife- conservation is hugely diverse and fragmented – but no less important for that.  Demands for solutions to countless conservation issues, including urgent attempts to save endangered species, are placed upon limited resources all over the world.  Dedicated organisations and individuals work tirelessly every day to counter the effects upon our environment, and upon our wildlife, of poverty, conflict, ignorance and greed – both commercial and individual.  In the absence of a globally collective will to prevent our earth from suffering death by a thousand cuts, and in the face of creeping and corrosive cynicism, the task can seem impossible.  But each of us can make a difference by adding our voice and our positive energy to whatever cause we hold most dear.

It is hoped that the painting ‘Glowing Embers of Ice’ will itself convey a visual story which can be interpreted by each individual in their own way.  But it is also hoped that the powerful accompanying narrative will help to encourage a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by our fellow creatures using a language in which they themselves are not able to communicate.  The author-painter does not presume to speak on their behalf, or attempt to lead the viewer to any conclusions.  She wishes merely to stir some remembering of our ancient connections – to see our shared earth through their eyes and to hear their voices above the clamour of our everyday lives.   Perhaps you will find your own way to engage with the issues presented and be inspired to discover more about them.

. . . . She, in turn, looks directly to you with a silent question . . . . Rest a while in the stillness and intensity of her gaze and allow your soul to hear her message . . . . Before the embers of life in her eyes are extinguished, perhaps you will hear your own voice speaking out for those who have no say.
